Background and History
Special Olympics Pakistan is a not-for-profit organization that works towards the development of people with intellectual disabilities through the ‘Power of Sports’.
Pakistan joined the Special Olympics movement in 1989 with around 20 registered athletes. The organization now has over 20,000 registered athletes, 600 coaches, 2500 volunteers with more than 280 competitions held by 2015. Special Olympics Pakistan hosts trainings and competitions in all four provinces, with sub programs in Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas. Offices are located in Karachi (Head Office), Lahore and Islamabad.
